Meet Wailua, a beautiful mare with so much love to give. After retiring from racing in 2025, Wailua came to the Kentucky Equine Adoption Center to begin a quieter chapter of her life. She has settled wonderfully into life off the track, enjoying time in the pasture with her friends, and is now looking for a loving non-riding home where she can enjoy her retirement as a spoiled and cherished companion.
 
Wailua is available as a companion due to a fracture in her right front sesamoid. Although her riding days are behind her, she is pasture sound and happy spending her days out in the field. She is currently barefoot and requires only routine trims. To help keep her comfortable and feeling her best, Wailua receives 3 quarts of Quantify® daily along with Equioxx.
 
We can’t say enough good things about this sweet mare. Wailua absolutely adores attention and stands beautifully for grooming in the barn. She has a kind, gentle presence and genuinely seems to enjoy spending time with people. We’ll also be introducing her to some basic groundwork as we continue getting to know her and helping her settle into life beyond the racetrack.

This adopter feels confident handling horses on the ground and can groom, tack up, and take care of basic needs on their own. They’re comfortable riding a gentle, well-trained horse at a walk, trot, and canter without supervision. They may also have some experience with groundwork, like lunging or working in the round pen.
