The Surrender Process

If you are considering surrendering your horse to the Kentucky Equine Adoption Center, please complete the Surrender Form below. Once submitted, our team will review the information and contact you to discuss your horse and next steps. Please note that we can only accept horses located within the state of Kentucky. We typically have a waiting list, and the process may take anywhere from a few days to several months. We encourage you to keep this in mind as you plan.​

Every horse that comes to the Center is required to have a current negative Coggins certificate as well as a surrender form, which will be provided to you if plans have been made to accept your horse. If necessary, we make every attempt to offer alternatives appropriate for you and your horse. If we are unable to accept your horse right away, we will do our best to suggest suitable alternatives. We also work closely with partner organizations and offer helpful contacts on our Resources Page to support you in making the best decision for your horse.
