About The Program

Here at the Kentucky Equine Adoption Center, rideable horses come and go twice as fast as their companion (non-rideable) counterparts. These sweet and loving horses long for a home and person of their own, but often get overlooked by the typical adopter. By matching our companion horses to people who want to learn about horses outside of the riding lesson setting, we hope to facilitate growth and connection for humans and horses alike. One of our goals for this program is to give purpose to our companion horses, expand their skills, and find them homes with the Stable Foundations participants that work with them. If you don’t want to adopt through the program, no worries, you’re still welcome to come and learn with us! The program is limited to 6 participants to create a more personal, low stress experience and environment for horses and humans.

Stable Foundations 8-week Program Fee

Individual: $500

Youth (13 years and under): $200

High School Student: $100 (must present valid student ID)

Family (3 or more participants): $1,200

Optional 4-week Adoption Course

Additional Fee: $200

Your program fee directly supports the care of the Stable Foundations horses you'll get to know and work with. During the course, the instructor will match you with a horse based on your skills and preferences. You'll continue working with that horse for the remainder of the program to build a meaningful partnership.

If you're interested in adopting the horse you've been paired with, you'll need to complete an additional 4-week Adoption Course designed to deepen your knowledge and skills for responsible horse ownership. This course is adult-oriented, requires prior completion of the 8-week Stable Foundations program, and includes an additional $200 fee.

During the program you will learn many valuable skills for horse handling and ownership, including: horse/handler safety, groundwork, basic horsemanship, care and nutrition, and much more. Each week includes a group lesson with a qualified instructor and, if you plan to pursue adoption, a private hour-long lesson with a KYEAC trainer. Stable Foundations is the perfect way to give horse ownership a “trial run” or simply to learn the skills necessary to be a part of the horse world in any capacity. We hope you will join us for this adventure in growth, knowledge, and build a connection with the horse and each other!
