About The Program

Here at the Kentucky Equine Adoption Center, rideable horses come and go twice as fast as their companion (non-rideable) counterparts. These sweet and loving horses long for a home and person of their own, but often get overlooked by the typical adopter.  By matching our companion horses to people who want to learn about horses outside of the riding lesson setting, we hope to facilitate growth and connection for humans and horses alike. One of our goals for this program is to give purpose to our companion horses, expand their skills, and find them homes with the Stable Foundations participants that work with them. If you don’t want to adopt through the program, no worries, you’re still welcome to come and learn with us! The program is limited to 6 participants to create a more personal, low stress experience and environment for horses and humans.

Program Sponsorships:

$250/person/month

$100/person 13 years and under/month

$50/High School student w/ student ID

$600/family of 3+/month

Additional 4 week Adoption course:

$200/person or per family

In order to be eligible for the Stable Foundations Program, a $250 monthly sponsorship of a companion horse is required for the eight week duration of the program. That sponsorship will go toward the care of the Stable Foundations horses you get to know and work with. Based on your skill level and preferences during the program, you will be matched with a horse by the instructor that you will continue to work with for the remainder of the program.

Any participants interested in adopting “their” Stable Foundations horse will be required to complete an additional 4 week course to dive deeper into necessary skills and knowledge for owning a horse. This will be an additional $200 sponsorship fee. The Adoption course is adult oriented. Previous completion of 8 week program required.

During the program you will learn many valuable skills for horse handling and ownership, including: horse/handler safety, groundwork, basic horsemanship, care and nutrition, and much more. Each week will include one mandatory lesson with a qualified instructor and the ability to schedule a one-on-one, hour long private session. Stable Foundations is the perfect way to give horse ownership a “trial run” or simply to learn the skills necessary to be a part of the horse world in any capacity. We hope you will join us for this adventure in growth, knowledge, and build a connection with the horse and each other!
