Sleepless Knight (Valor)
2006 16.1 HH Dark Bay Thoroughbred Gelding
"Valor” is a lovable, affectionate gelding with a heart as big as his personality. He arrived at our facility in January 2025 through an animal control case and immediately began receiving the care he needed. Shortly after intake, Valor underwent surgery to remove a dermal sarcoma from his nose and has since made a full recovery.
Despite experiencing neglect in his past, this retired racehorse—formerly known on the track as Sleepless Knight—has nothing but love to give. Valor is the definition of an “in-your-pocket” companion who thrives on attention and connection. While he is not a riding horse, he enjoys low-impact ground activities such as lunging and obstacle work, showing curiosity and enthusiasm that make him a fun and engaging partner.
Valor is maintained on 8 pounds of McCauley’s Alam daily, along with a joint supplement and 1 Equioxx tablet. Sensitive to sugar and prone to laminitis, he does best with a structured turnout routine—off grass for about 16 hours per day during warmer months and wearing a grazing muzzle when on pasture. With this management plan, he is currently doing very well.
Additionally, Valor has a narrowing joint space in his left hock and receives annual injections to help keep him comfortable and pasture sound. He was castrated at age 19 upon arrival and must be turned out in a gelding-only field, ideally not directly adjacent to mares. He gets along well with other geldings and is ready for a peaceful, loving retirement home where he can enjoy the comfort, companionship, and care he truly deserves.
