Sleepless Knight (Valor)
2006 16.1 HH Dark Bay Thoroughbred Gelding
Meet Valor! Formerly known on the racetrack as Sleepless Knight, Valor is a lovable retired Thoroughbred who came to the Kentucky Equine Adoption Center through Animal Control as part of a neglect case in January 2025. Shortly after arriving, he underwent surgery to remove a dermal sarcoma from his nose and has since made a full recovery.
Affectionate and full of personality, Valor is the definition of an “in-your-pocket” horse who thrives on attention and connection. He is looking for a non-riding home where he can enjoy retirement as a beloved companion. Valor enjoys low-impact ground activities like lunging and obstacle work, giving his adopter plenty of opportunities to spend time with him and keep his curious mind engaged.
Valor is sensitive to sugar and prone to laminitis, so careful management helps keep him healthy and comfortable. He is maintained on 3 scoops of Hallway Feeds Quantify® daily, thoroughly soaked, along with a joint supplement and 1 Equioxx tablet. He stalls well overnight and wears a grazing muzzle when on pasture. Valor also has narrowing in his left hock and receives annual injections to help keep him comfortable and pasture sound. With his current management routine, he is doing very well.
Valor was gelded at age 19 and needs turnout with geldings only, ideally away from direct contact with mares. He gets along well with other geldings and is ready for a peaceful retirement home where he can enjoy the companionship, attention, and love he deserves.

This adopter has spent a good amount of time around horses—through lessons, mentorship, or hands-on experience—and feels confident handling and caring for them independently. They’re comfortable riding at all gaits (walk, trot, and canter), and can lunge or round pen a horse with ease. They also have some experience with less-seasoned or “greener” horses, especially when working with support from a trainer.
