Meet Romeo! While we don’t know much about his history, we do know that his previous owner passed away, leaving him without care until he was brought to us through Animal Control in March 2025. Since his arrival, Romeo has been thriving under consistent care and is steadily gaining weight.
 
Romeo appears to be an unraced, unregistered Thoroughbred, approximately five years old. While our long-term goal is to develop him as a riding horse, he currently lacks foundational training in manners and groundwork, which are our primary focus at this time. We do not believe he has been ridden before, but with continued soundness, patience, and the right guidance, we are hopeful he will grow into a wonderful riding partner. His potential will become clearer as his training progresses.
 
Right now, Romeo is learning the basics—such as picking up his feet and building trust with people. He can become defensive when handled by more than one person at a time, so he will need a calm, confident handler who communicates clearly and avoids pushing him too quickly. Smart and a bit opinionated, Romeo prefers to do things on his own timeline, but he is also a flashy mover with plenty of natural potential.
 
With continued groundwork, proper care, and patient, consistent training, Romeo has all the makings of a loyal and rewarding partner—just as charming as his name suggests.

This adopter has extensive hands-on experience with horses, often gained through years of riding, training, and formal education. They're confident working with green, unstarted, or more challenging horses on their own and have a strong grasp of advanced riding, care, and management—including supporting horses with special medical needs. They may even work professionally as a trainer, rider, instructor, or equine caregiver.
