Meet Romeo! We unfortunately don’t know much about Romeo’s history. After his previous owner passed away, Romeo was left on his own until he was brought to the Kentucky Equine Adoption Center through Animal Control in March 2025.
 
Romeo appears to be an unraced, unregistered Thoroughbred, approximately five years old. Since arriving at the Center, he has recovered well and is now at a healthy weight. He has also formed strong bonds with his pasture mates and seems to find comfort and confidence in the company of other horses, which may come from the time he previously spent alone.
 
Now that Romeo is healthy and ready for his next step, he is receiving personalized training with John and Kathy Barr of Raising The Barr in Nicholasville, Kentucky, thanks to a generous grant from the ASPCA. This individualized training will help Romeo continue building his foundation while giving us a better understanding of his abilities, personality, and potential as a riding partner.
 
Smart, athletic, and a flashy mover, Romeo has plenty of potential, and we’re excited to see what this next chapter has in store for him. As his training progresses, we’ll learn more about the type of rider and home that will suit him best. Stay tuned for more updates on Romeo’s progress!

This adopter has extensive hands-on experience with horses, often gained through years of riding, training, and formal education. They're confident working with green, unstarted, or more challenging horses on their own and have a strong grasp of advanced riding, care, and management—including supporting horses with special medical needs. They may even work professionally as a trainer, rider, instructor, or equine caregiver.
