Pitch Dark
2019 16.1HH Dark Bay Thoroughbred Gelding
Meet Pitch Dark, a calm and easygoing gentleman who loves companionship and takes life in stride.
This sweet boy faces a few significant physical challenges. Pitch Dark has a bone chip and bone spur on his left front fetlock, along with a cyst in his left front P1 bone and some effusion in his left stifle. These compounding issues cause him to experience periods of significant unsoundness.
He is also a hard keeper and is currently maintained on 8 pounds of McCauley’s Top Breeder daily, 6 ounces of rice bran oil, and 1 Equioxx tablet, along with regular alfalfa to help him keep weight on. Because sugars in grass can increase inflammation in his feet and worsen lameness, he is on a dry lot while we continue to troubleshoot his needs. Recently, he received an injection in his left front fetlock to support his comfort.
At this time, we are not accepting adoption applications for Pitch Dark while we continue to evaluate the best long-term care plan for him.
Adoption Fee: $900
Adoption Home Level: Intermediate
This adopter has spent a good amount of time around horses—through lessons, mentorship, or hands-on experience—and feels confident handling and caring for them independently. They’re comfortable riding at all gaits (walk, trot, and canter), and can lunge or round pen a horse with ease. They also have some experience with less-seasoned or “greener” horses, especially when working with support from a trainer.
