Forever Candy
2008 15.2 HH Chestnut Thoroughbred Mare
“Candy” arrived at our facility in July 2025 through animal control as part of a neglect case. Severely emaciated upon arrival, she was placed on a carefully monitored refeeding program and has made remarkable progress in her recovery. Her foal, Pixie Magic, also made a full recovery and is now waiting for her own adopter. Candy is now enjoying a pasture full-time with a small group of mares.
Candy is a confident mare with a strong personality and a gentle nature. She enjoys the company of other horses and forms strong bonds with her herd mates. She arrived with Lightning Fire, and the two mares remain closely bonded, though we expect Candy’s separation anxiety to ease as she continues settling into a larger herd environment. Candy carries herself with quiet confidence and is excellent for the farrier.
Due to significant damage to her right front fetlock—believed to be the result of an untreated joint infection prior to her arrival—Candy will not be suitable as a riding horse. She is currently pasture sound and will be looking for a quiet retirement home where she can enjoy a comfortable lifestyle with appropriate care and management.
Candy is a resilient mare who has overcome so much and continues to show her strength every day. With her confident personality and gentle spirit, she would make a wonderful companion for someone looking to provide a safe, peaceful home where she can enjoy the retirement she deserves.

This adopter has spent a good amount of time around horses—through lessons, mentorship, or hands-on experience—and feels confident handling and caring for them independently. They’re comfortable riding at all gaits (walk, trot, and canter), and can lunge or round pen a horse with ease. They also have some experience with less-seasoned or “greener” horses, especially when working with support from a trainer.
