Internship Opportunities

The Kentucky Equine Adoption Center is located in the heart of horse country, making it a perfect place to gain horse experience and get connected to other equine facilities throughout Kentucky. The KyEAC is unique in that we take in all breeds of equines from a variety of situations. By completing this internship, you will  gather knowledge about multiple aspects of working at an equine rescue.

The Barn Management Internship will consist of completing barn chores such as feeding, watering, turning in/out horses, mucking stalls, and more. Additionally, you will learn from our trainers about several different training methods we use. As an equine rescue, we often get horses in bad shape that need serious medical attention and are often times emaciated or severely overweight. During the course of the internship, you will learn how to treat different medical issues as well as learn feeding regiments to get a horse to an ideal weight.

We accept interns of all experience levels, however, we expect all our interns to be willing to learn and do tasks around the facility as needed by the Barn Manager. Interns must be able to physically perform manual, and sometimes demanding, labor outside in all types of weather conditions and be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Interns must provide their own source of transportation and must be dependable and on time.

Internships can be completed in the fall, spring, or summer. We will work with the intern to arrange a schedule that will allow them to gain the hours needed to complete their internship requirements. Interns must be able to work at least 2 days during the week and one morning on the weekend. We will work around class schedules as needed. If interested, please click the button below to apply. Once we review your application, we will contact you to set up an interview. Thank you for your interest!
